Identification of the Irish Chiton Species

 

5a.
Girdle and valves are yellow or red in colour. Girdle is covered in thin flat scales that look almost like flat spines under magnification. Valve tegmentum has distinct, but tiny, dark spots arranged along the lateral areas of intermediate valves. Valves appear completely smooth.
5b.
Girdle and valves not yellow or orange in colour. Valve tegmentum without distinct dark spots arranged along the diagonal of intermediate valves.
