BioProtect

Map Your Favourite Areas of our Celtic Seas!

BioProtect is a European funded project focused on developing ecosystem-based solutions to accelerate the preservation of coastal and marine ecosystems across different regions and scales in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. The aim of BioProtect is to produce collaboratively designed decision-making support tools to aid in protecting marine biodiversity while ensuring we can all benefit from marine spaces. You can find more information on the project on its official website: https://bioprotect-project.eu/

Our research is focused on Irish waters, and more specifically on the Celtic Seas. As part of this initiative, we are looking to connect with and bring together people with a wide range of knowledge and experience, including those from fisheries, NGOs, local and national authorities, tourism, and other sectors or communities connected to the Celtic Seas and its resources. By engaging with BioProtect, you will have the opportunity to contribute your knowledge to the project and work alongside scientists to co-design practical tools and share insights that reflect the real-world dynamics of the region.

We would greatly appreciate your expertise and perspective in this process.

We are running an online participatory mapping survey for the Celtic Seas. Through this survey, we hope to gather data on demographics, ecological components, activities, threats to biodiversity and climate change that would inform the first prototypes of the tools BioProtect will produce. All involvement to the survey is entirely voluntary, anonymous, and the data collected will be used strictly for scientific purposes. You are able to withdraw at any time.

If you are interested in participating in the survey, please click the link above. It will give you access to the survey and to instructions on how to complete it.

We hope you will consider this opportunity to collaborate on the development of future conservation solutions in the Celtic Seas and take part in a large-scale EU project.
